Front gate access is crucial to any would be robber - this allows them to bring their vehicle into the property and load the vehicle potentially unnoticed.

So securing your gate is CRUCIAL. Do it TODAY!

Easiest and BEST

Install a sensor on your front gate - it should alarm when the gate is opened or moved (provided you have set your alarm!)

Sliding gate:

To gain access via a sliding gate, the criminal merely needs to lift the gate by less than a cm. This will derail the gate and allow it to be opened.

Anti lift brackets at the top of the gate are NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

We suggest it is MUCH better to ensure your gate is also secured via LOCKING PINS at each end of the gate.

This "locking pin" is simply a steel rod welded onto the gate. This rod then enters into a cut-out enclosure on the gate post. Ideally this should be near to the bottom of the gate. An example is shown in the pic.

A similar "locking pin" needs to be implemented on the  back end of the gate. Refer to the pic for an example.

If these two pins are fitted, this should ensure the gate simply cannot be lifted OR moved forwards or backwards off the rail.

A similar "locking pin" needs to be implemented on the  back end of the gate. Refer to the pic for an example.

Folding Gate:

If you have a gate which folds open and is held closed by locking arms which are bolted to the gate, please ensure the following:

  • It should not be possible to somehow reach in through the gate and cut the padlocks off the arms.

  • In addition we recommend you use high security locks which are more difficult to cut.

Final note:

Ideally you want your alarm to go off BEFORE the criminals have gained access to your home.

So please seriously consider:

  • Security beams which cover the main entrance to your house and which will pick up an intruder when entering the gate.

  • Install an alarm on your gate so that it alarms if it is opened by any means other than your remote.
